SUMMARY

OF THE APRIL 28, 2009, PUBLIC MEETING TO DISCUSS THE 2008 KEWAUNEE END-OF-CYCLE PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT On April 28, 2009, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) held a public meeting at the Kewaunee Municipal Building in Kewaunee, Wisconsin. The meeting was between NRC Region III management and Dominion Energy Kewaunee, Inc. representatives to discuss the NRCs 2008 End-of Cycle Assessment of the Kewaunee Power Stations safety performance.

The results of that assessment were discussed in a letter to the licensee dated March 4, 2009, (ADAMS ML090640884).

The NRC began the meeting with an overview of the NRC, the NRCs Reactor Oversight Process (ROP), national ROP results, and the Action Matrix. This was followed by a summary of the NRCs assessment of Kewaunee performance in 2008. The NRCs meeting presentation slides can be found in ADAMS at ML091190499. A list of principal meeting attendees can be found in the attached Enclosure.

Mr. Scace, of the licensee, provided the licensees perspective on the assessment, acknowledging the White inspection finding in the emergency preparedness area. Mr. Scace then discussed the sites emphasis on continual improvement, recently developed coaching handbooks for plant supervisors, and a site emphasis on engineering tools. Cindy Pederson, the Region III Director of the Division of Reactor Projects, provided closing remarks, encouraging Kewaunee to maintain the performance focus that allowed the NRC close substantive cross-cutting issues in last years assessment of 2007 Kewaunee performance and acknowledging that the NRC would be conducting an inspection of actions taken by Kewaunee for the White inspection finding.

D. Christian At the end of the meeting, members of the public were given the opportunity to ask questions of NRC officials.
