OF MAY 26, 2009 MEETING BETWEEN THE NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION AND MEMBERS OF THE KEWAUNEE POWER STATION EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS STAFF CONCERNING THE JUNE 2009 KEWAUNEE EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS EXERCISE
Dear Mr. Heacock:
On May 26, 2009, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff met with representatives from the Kewaunee Power Station Emergency Preparedness staff. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss the upcoming June 2009 Kewaunee Emergency Preparedness Exercise. list the meeting attendees.
A public meeting notice was issued on May 13, 2009, and was posted on the NRCs external (public) web page (ADAMS Accession No. ML091330839). The notice included the meeting agenda. The meeting discussions included: (1) an overview of the Kewaunee Power Station; (2) an overview of the Kewaunee Emergency Response Organization (ERO) and response facilities; and (3) a summary of exercise-related points-of-interest, including dose assessment information. Enclosure 2 contains the Microsoft PowerPoint presentation used during the meeting.
Mr. John Egdorf from your staff provided the presentation. Mr. Egdorf provided an overview of the Kewaunee Power Station, including some general technical information about the station and a discussion of work activities currently underway in the switchyard. Following this, Mr. Egdorf presented information about the Kewaunee ERO. This section of the presentation included a review of the different response facilities, the licensee personnel who would respond to those locations, and what functions are assigned to each facility. Mr. Egdorf also showed a diagram of the Emergency Operations Facility and the Technical Support Center.
Lastly, Mr. Egdorf discussed exercise-related points-of-interest. These points included a position-by-position comparison of Kewaunee and NRC responders, information about the Kewaunee dose assessment program, access details for the ERO facilities, and details about the extent of exercise participation from the State of Wisconsin.
