SUMMARY

OF THE AUGUST 9, 2005, PUBLIC MEETING TO DISCUSS THE KEWAUNEE END-OF-CYCLE PLANT PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT On August 9, 2005, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) held a public meeting at the Kewaunee Municipal Building in Kewaunee, Wisconsin. The meeting was between NRC Region III Management and Dominion Energy Kewaunee, Inc. representatives to discuss the NRCs End-of-Cycle Assessment of licensee performance. The meeting notice and meeting presentation slides can be found in ADAMS as ML052070732 and ML052710257, respectively.

A list of NRC and licensee meeting participants can be found in the attached Enclosure.

The NRC began the meeting with an overview of the NRCs Reactor Oversight Process and the Action Matrix in general. This was followed by a discussion of the NRCs assessment of Kewaunees performance in calendar year 2004, which is documented in the March 4, 2005, End-of-Cycle assessment letter. The NRC also discussed upcoming inspections and activities at Kewaunee including an inspection procedure 95001 supplemental inspection to review the circumstances surrounding a White finding associated with the licensees inability to expeditiously close the containment hatch during the fall 2004 refueling outage. In addition, the NRC briefly discussed two issues undergoing review associated with auxiliary feedwater susceptibility to tornado, seismic, and high-energy line break scenarios, and safeguards equipment susceptibility to turbine building basement flooding.

Before adjourning the meeting, the NRC provided the opportunity for members of the public to ask questions. No comments were received from the public during the public meeting.
