SUMMARY

OF MAY 14, 2002, MEETING WITH NUCLEAR MANAGEMENT COMPANY, LLC, TO DISCUSS THEIR RESPONSE TO INTERIM COMPENSATORY MEASURE B.2.b OF THE SECURITY ORDERS (TAC NOS. MB4125, MB4139, MB4148, MB4157, MB4165, MB4166, MB4167, AND MB4168)

On May 14, 2002, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) met with the management of Nuclear Management Company, LLC (NMC), to discuss their response to Interim Compensatory Measure (ICM) B.2.b of the Security Orders that were issued to each of the operating NMC plants (Duane Arnold Energy Center, Kewaunee Nuclear Power Plant, Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant, Palisades Plant, Point Beach Nuclear Plant, Units 1 and 2, and Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant, Units 1 and 2) on February 25, 2002.

The response to ICM B.2.b included in NMCs letter of March 18, 2002, was initially determined to be ambiguous by the NRC staff. NMC requested the May 14, 2002, meeting with the NRC staff to discuss their response and their basis for concluding that it was responsive to the Security Order. Based on the meeting discussions, the NRC staff concluded that it understood NMCs response. However, the NRC staff stated that it expects a letter from NMC supplementing its earlier ICM B.2.b response consistent with the information provided during the meeting.
