SUMMARY

OF CONFERENCE CALL ON JANUARY 23, 2007, WITH ENTERGYNUCLEAR OPERATIONS, INC., REGARDING THE PILGRIM LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION (TAC NO. MC9669)The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff conducted a conference call with EntergyNuclear Operations, Inc., (Entergy or the applicant) regarding the Pilgrim license renewal application (LRA) to discuss ultrasonic testing (UT) of the drywell shell, water on the torus room floor and to request documentation for periodic testing of Fire Water System equipment (License Renewal Application Section B.1.13.2). The conference call was conducted on Tuesday, January 23, 2007, between 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. at 11555 Rockville Pike, Rockville, MD 20852. The list of participants is shown in the enclosure. The following is a summary of the conference call.The NRC Pilgrim Project Manager provided an introduction and the meeting then began withthe fire water system. The staff requested that the applicant provide approved guidance documents that include fire hydrant hose hydrostatic testing, gasket inspections, and fire hydrant flow test. Next, the staff requested that the applicant clarify recently submitted UT data.

And finally, the staff and the applicant discussed additional UT data recordings and torus room water testing. The applicant agreed to identify the current license basis document that covers the described Fire Water System tests. The applicant described a plan to perform additional UT in areas previously tested, and provide documentation to the NRC. The applicant offered to provide a rationale on testing the functionality of drywell shell sand bed drains. In addition, the applicant offered to provide a plan to analyze and document water that accumulates on the torus room floor.
