SUMMARY

OF CONFERENCE CALL ON OCTOBER 10, 2006, WITHENTERGY NUCLEAR OPERATIONS, INC., TO CLARIFY INFORMATION SENT TO THE NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION IN RESPONSE TO REQUESTS FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION REGARDING THE PILGRIM LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION (TAC NO. MC9669)The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff conducted a conference call with EntergyNuclear Operations, Inc. (Entergy or the applicant) regarding the Pilgrim license renewal application (LRA) to discuss information noted by the NRC's Pilgrim Audit Team, and to clarify information sent to the NRC in response to requests for additional information (RAI). The conference call was conducted on Tuesday, October 10, 2006, between 11:00 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. at 11555 Rockville Pike, Rockville, MD 20852. The list of participants is shown in the enclosure. The following is a summary of the conference call:The NRC Project Manager provided an introduction and said that two issues discussed in theSeptember 6, 2006, Pilgrim conference call would be included in a pending conference call summary letter, that responses received by the NRC to RAIs 2.3.3.9-1 and 2.3.3.9-8 were not considered complete and that the response to RAI B.1.3-1 required clarification. On September 6, 2006, the NRC requested Entergy provide neutron fluence data in the form of the TransWare report (demonstrating the level of adherence to the limitations to the Radiation Analysis and Modeling Application code), this was not addressed in Pilgrim LRA Amendment 9.

NRC also requested changes be made to LRA Table 2.5-1 including the addition of Non-Environmental Qualification (EQ) electrical penetrations, Non-EQ electrical penetrations were not addressed in Pilgrim LRA Amendment 9. Discussion of RAIs, 2.3.3.9-1 and 2.3.3.9-8, resulted in the Entergy action to provide NRC the applicant's commitment to satisfy Appendix A to Branch Technical Position Auxiliary and Power Conversion Systems Branch 9.5-1. Discussion of RAI B.1.3-1 resulted in Entergy reiterating that it will follow the Boiling Water Reactor Vessel and Interal Program -75 guidelines (originally proposed in the LRA) with regard to the capped control rod drive return line nozzle. The applicant had an opportunity to comment on the meeting summary./RA/Perry Buckberg, Project ManagerLicense Renewal Branch A Division of License Renewal Office of Nuclear Reactor RegulationDocket No. 50-293
