At their January 18. 2006 meeting, the Plymouth Board of Selectmen voted unanimously to request that the Nucica:- Regulatory Commission ("NRC") deny Entergy s request for ajoint review of their Pilgrim.
(Plymouth. MA) and Vermont Yankee (BTattleboro, VT) nuclear power plant re-licensure applications.
we join with our state and federal legislative delegations and Govemor Romney in making this request as we all believe that a separate revicwv is in thc best interest of our community. As thc host community for Pilgrim. wve believe that it is essential for the Plymouth based NRC safety and environmental review teams to focus on those characteristics specific and unique to Pilgrim.
Our local officials appreciated meeting with representatives of the NRC in Plymouth on January 12, 2006 to discuss the re-licensing process. It wvas during that discussion that the NRC c-plained that certain efficiencies might be gained through a joint application review. Although we appreciate that certain efficiencies may be gained through such a process, it is our belief that the benefits of a separate rTviCwv out-weigh those potential efficiencies. And as this issue affects both Plymouth and the surrounding region, we believe a separate review is necessary.
