Net Nuclear Generation Up 9% in U.S.

Department of Energy's Energy Information Administration reported that the net nuclear generation of 62.7 million megawatt-hours in May was up from roughly 57.5 million MWh in April, but down 0.3% from 62.9 million MWh in May 2005.

Nuclear's year-to-date generation through May was 2.8% higher than the 2005 level for the same time period. EIA took note of warmer weather this year compared to last year. According to the National Climatic Data Center, the first half of 2006 was the warmest on record in the US since record keeping began in 1895, EIA reported.
