SUMMARY

OF MAY 18, 2004, ANNUAL ASSESSMENT MEETING WITH CONSTELLATION ENERGY GROUP On May 18, 2004, at 1:00 p.m., an Annual Assessment Meeting was conducted at the Joint News Center, Oswego County Airport, Fulton, NY between the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and Constellation Energy Group. The NRC requested the meeting with Constellation Energy Group management to discuss NRCs assessment of the safety performance of the Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station for calendar year 2003.

The NRC presented and discussed its assessment of the safety performance of Nine Mile Point for the period between January 1 through December 31, 2003. The NRC presentation included background on the plant, performance assessment results, an overview of calendar year 2004 planned inspections and oversight, and a discussion of general NRC issues. As part of this regulatory performance meeting, Constellation Energy Group presented an overview of their performance and actions to address the cross-cutting issue in the area of problem identification and corrective actions.

The public observed this meeting and was offered the opportunity to communicate with the NRC regarding Constellation Energy Groups performance at Nine Mile Point and the role of the agency in ensuring safe plant operations. At the end of the meeting between the NRC and Constellation Energy Group, the NRC answered questions from the public for approximately one hour.
