SUMMARY

OF APRIL 9, 2020, MEETING WITH EXELON GENERATION COMPANY, LLC REGARDING LICENSE AMENDMENT REQUEST TO CHANGE ALLOWABLE MAIN STEAM ISOLATION VALVE LEAK RATES AT NINE MILE POINT NUCLEAR STATION, UNIT 2 (EPID L-2019-LLA-0115)

On April 9, 2020, a public webinar was held between the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and representatives of Exelon Generation Company, LLC (Exelon, the licensee). The purpose of the meeting was for Exelon to discuss planned changes to parts of the methodology described in the Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station (Nine Mile Point), Unit 2, main steam isolation valve license amendment request (LAR). The meeting notice and agenda, dated March 26, 2020, are available in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) at Accession No. ML20099A123. A copy of the LAR is available in ADAMS at Accession No. ML19151A537. A list of attendees is enclosed.

The licensee presented information (ADAMS Accession No. ML20098D508) on changes that it planned to make to the methodology and calculation supporting the LAR involving elemental iodine removal. The licensee stated the intent of the changes was to make the methodology described in the LAR more consistent with the current licensing basis for Nine Mile Point, Unit 2.

Exelon stated that it is making the changes in lieu of responding to the sixth question included in a request for additional information (RAI) the NRC issued to the licensee on February 14, 2020 (ADAMS Accession No. ML20045E358). The staff pointed out to the licensee that the sixth question concerned both aerosols and elementals and that aerosols would need to be addressed in the licensees response the RAI. The staff asked the licensee if it planned to remove references to the Metcalf model as part of the changes. The licensee stated that it did not plan to remove the reference. The changes would be included in the RAI response that was to be provided to the NRC by May 14, 2020.

No members of the public were in attendance except for representatives from the State of New York. No public meeting feedback forms were received. Please direct any inquiries to me at 301-415-2871 or Michael.Marshall@nrc.gov.
