SUMMARY
OF PUBLIC MEETING On August 21, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Nine Mile Point Nuclear Generating Station Training Building, Oswego, NY, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) conducted a public open-house to discuss its assessment of the safety performance at the James A. FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant (FitzPatrick) and Nine Mile Point Nuclear Generating Station (Nine Mile Point) in 2017. The open house was held in conjunction with Exelons Community Night for FitzPatrick and Nine Mile Point.
A notice of the open-house was issued July 3, 2018, and posted on the NRCs external (public)
Web page. The meeting notice can be found in the NRCs Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) with Accession No. ML18186A251. ADAMS is accessible from the NRC Web page at: http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html.
The NRC presented poster boards and fact sheets, and was available to discuss its assessment of the safety performance of Fitzpatrick and Nine Mile Point for the period of January 1, 2017, through December 31, 2017, as documented in our letters dated February 28, 2018 (ADAMS Accession No. ML18058B215 for FitzPatrick and ML18053A715 for Nine Mile Point.). The NRC poster boards and fact sheets included background on the Reactor Oversight Process.
Additional information relative to the NRC's Annual Assessment Process and the safety performance of FitzPatrick and Nine Mile Point can be found on the NRC's web site at:

Members of the public, media, and local officials attended the open-house and were offered the opportunity to question the NRC regarding the FitzPatricks and Nine Mile Points performance, and the role of the agency in ensuring safe plant operations.
