Dear Mr. Eliason:
This letter refers to your July 30, 1997 correspondence (LR-N970440), in response to our July 1, 1 997 letter regarding the Salem Unit 1 & 2 facilities.
Thank you for informing us of the corrective and preventive actions for the Notice of Violation as documented in your letter. One violation involved less than adequate corrective actions in that the operations staff did not document and pursue the root cause of recurring configuration control deficiencies and maintenance and operations supervision did not ensure adequate corrective measures for an identified degraded auxiliary feedwater piping condition. The second violation involved violation of shipping paper requirements.
Your response to the two violations will be examined during a future inspection of your licensed program.
