Nuclear Regulatory Commission Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Washington, D. C. 20555 Attention: Mr. Harold R. Denton, Director

Dear Mr. Denton:

SUBJECT:

Grand Gulf Nuclear Station Units 1 and 2 Docket Nos. 50.416 and 50-417 License No. NPF-13 File 0260/L-860.0/5018 Drywell Personnel Air Lock AECM-83/0706

Reference:

Letter AECM-83/0674 from L. F. Dale to H. R. Denton, dated October 24, 1983 The referenced letter was written because the W. J. Woolley Company had notified the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) of a possible 10CFR Part 21 defect on the airlock seals of several plants, including those for the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station (CGNS) dryvell personnel airlock. This letter was intended to be justification for interim operation with the current seals in place until the first scheduled outage and was not a notification from Mississippi Power & Light (MP&L) of a Potentially Reportable Deficiency. MP&L is currently continuing its evaluation of the reportability of this matter and if it is determined to be reportable, separate notification will be provided.

Yours truly,
