Subject:

Docket No. 50-482: Revision to Commitment made in Licensee Event Report 96-001-01 Gentlemen:

WCNOC is revising a commitment made in LER 96-001-01 regarding the repair or rework of Circulating Water System condenser water box air release valves.

WCNOC stated in the Reference that these valves would be repaired or replaced by November 1, 1997. Based on the timeline for refurbishment of the valves by the vendor, the November 1, 1997, date is not attainable. The new committed date is April 30, 1998.

Currently, eleven valves have been replaced and twelve valves remain scheduled to be repaired or replaced. Having some of these air release valves isolated is acceptable because the three air release valves on the Circulating Water System warming line have been inspected and reworked as necessary and will be tested and monitored when the warming line is placed in service. Operation last winter with twenty waterbox air release valves isolated and the three warming line air release valves functional, demonstrated that the lineup we anticipate this winter will not impact circulating water warming line flow.
