-The Commercial Service Date for McGuire Nuclear Station, h Unit 2-is March 1, 1984. As specified by Section XI of the - i ASME. Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, the first interval for ,

Unit 2 was from March 1, 1984 to March.1, 1994.

In accordance-withi10CFR50.55a(g)(4)(11), the ISI program for Unit 2 shall be' revised to comply with the requirements  !

of the latest edition and addenda of the Code incorporated by reference in 10CFR50.55a(b)(2) twelve months prior to the i start of second. inspection interval. The latest edition of  ;

the Code that was referenced by paragraph (b) of 10CFR50.55a at that time was the 1989 edition of the Code, no addenda. ,

Pursuant to the requirements of 10CFR50.55a, please find attached a~ copy.of the ISI plan for McGuire Nuclear Station-Unit'2 (VolumesEl and 2) to be used during the second  ;

interval. In accordance with the requirements of. ;j 10CFR50.55a(g), the ISI plan for Unit 2 of McJuire Nuclear Station will be performed in accordance with tne 1989  ;

prepared. These drawings will be submitted to you at a  ;

later date. Further, some of the class B items do not have  :

Calibration Blocks listed (Volume 2 Appendix A) because the 7 blocks themselves are in the course of preparation. This  !

information will, also, be provided at a later date.

Included within the ISI plan provided by this letter is a request for relief from certain inspection requirements that have been determined to be impractical. Specifically, Volume 1 Section 9 of the ISI plan provides the relief request for NRC review. Pursuant to 10CFR50.5Sa(g)(6), NRC approval of the enclosed relief is hereby requested. An additional request for relief regarding IWF-5000 is currently in preparation and will be submitted at a later date, under a separate letter.

In Addition, please note that Volume 1 Section 1.2 of the attached ISI plan identifies the Code Cases that will be used during the second inspection interval for Unit 2. All of the Code Cases identified are listed in revision 10 of NRC Regulatory Guide 1.147,_" Inservice Inspection Code Case Acceptability - ASME Section XI Division 1". Accordingly, this letter provides our notification of intent to utilize the listed code cases during the second ISI interval for Unit 2.

By letter dated October 12, 1992, a copy of the ISI plan to be used during the second interval for McGuire, Unit 1 was submitted. The letter identified a code case (Code Case N-491) that w;uld be utilized, but was not approved by the NRC yet and; thus, was not listed within Regulatory Guide 1.147..A submittal requesting NRC authorization to use this particular code case was to be submitted.

Subsequent to the October 12, 1992 letter, the NRC issued revision 10 to Regulatory Guide 1.147, which listed Code Case N-491. As such, specific NRC authorization to use Code Case N-491 during the second ISI interval for Unit 1 is not necessary. Please be advised that Code case N-491 will be used during the second ISI interval at McGuire, Unit 1 and that this letter serves as your notification of that fact.
