Ray, Senior Vice President Subject: HRC Security Inspection - San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station This refers to the routine Safeguards inspection conducted by Mr. M. Schuster of this office on May 18-22, 1992. The inspection included a review of activities for your San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS), Units 1, 2 and At the conclusion of the site visit on May 22, 1992, the findings were discussed with those membqrseyour-staff identified in the enclosed repor '~

Areas examined during this inspection are identified in the report. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of selective examinations of procedures and representative records, interviews with facility and contract personnel, and observations by the inspector Within the scope of the inspection one violation, pertaining to a failure to

test security, equipment was identified. The violation is not being cited because the licensee's prompt efforts to correct the failure and the criteria specified in Section V.A. of the Enforcement Policy were satisfie In addition, one unresolved item, pertaining to security detection equipment, was identified. The licensee agreed to furnish a status report by June 22, 199 The material enclosed herewith contains Safeguards Information as defined by 10 CFR Part 73.21 and its disclosure to unauthorized individuals is prohibited by Section 147 of the Atomic Energy Act of 1954, as amended.
