OF PUBLIC MEETING HELD ON APRIL 22,1999, TO PRESENT I PLANT PERFORMANCE REVIEW RESULTS FOR SAN ONOFRE NUCLEAR l GENERATING STATION (SAN ONOFRE)

Dear Mr. Ray:

This refers to the public meeting conducted to discuss the results of the Plant Performance Review, which was completed on February 11,1999. The meeting was held on April 22,1999, ,

at the Southern California Edison Mesa Facility in San Clemente, California. I noted that NRC {

had determined that performance at San Onofre was acceptable. The discussion included j exchange on the results of the current perforrnance review. Your staff indicated that they agreed with the results of the performance assessment. ,

Subsequent to the Plant Performance Review discussion, I provided an overview of NRC actions taken in response to the Year 2000 (Y2K) concerns. Informal discussions with members of the public were held following the meeting in which I briefing outlined recent changes to the process that is used by the NRC to assess licensee performance. Copies of the overhead slides used during and after the meeting are enclosed.

In accordance with Section 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," Part 2, Title 10, Code of Federal Regulations, a copy of this letter will be placed in the NRC's Public Document Room.
