Docket Nos.: 50-424

. and 50-425 15 00T 1986 APPLICANT: Georgia Power Company FACILITY: Vogtle Electric Generating Plant, Units 1 and 2

SUBJECT:

SUMMARY

OF MEETING HELD OCTOBER 6, 1986 ON ENVIRONMENTAL AND SEISMIC EQUIPMENT QUALIFICATION AND PUMP AND VALVE OPERABILITY ISSUES On October 6,1986, the staff met with the applicant and its representatives

to discuss the environmental and seismic qualifications for equipment inside of containment and to discuss pump and valve operability issues. Participants in the meeting are in Enclosure 1.

The staff had requested additional infomation on the containment temperature profile curves generated by the computer codes " Contempt" and Copatta". The codes calculate the maximum temperature achieved during a main steam line break (MSLB) in containment and are used to environmentally qualify safety-related equipment. The staff asked the applicant to provide the input data to these 2

codes, with confimatory analysis on both Copatta and Contempt. The staff has determined that the Copatta Code appears to be an acceptable alternate to the Contempt Code for caluclating the maximum temperature achieved in con-tainment. However, the staff requested additional information regarding the input parameters for both codes. These parameters include the steam blowdown I energy release data, and containment pressure values. The applicant agreed to provide an update to the September 19, 1986 submittal regarding the input parameters for the Ccoatta and Contempt Codes by October 17, 1986.

The second half of the meeting discussed the pump and valve operability issues (SSER 3, Section 3.10.2.3 01 (Ic)). The applicant discussed the reconirendations made by the staff on the specific and generic issues arising out of the Pump and Valve Operability Review Team (PVORT) audit, conducted June 24-26, 1986 at the site. The applicant will submit to the staff the proposed revisions to the FSAR by October 17, 1986 concerning the PVORT items and all other items (Non-FSAR

amendments) by October 31, 1986.
