- E WASHINGTON, D. C. 20555 March 21. 1988 Docket Nos.: 50-321 50-366 50-424 50-425 LICENSEE:
Georgia Power Company FACILITIES:
Hatch Units 1 and 2 and Vogtle Units 1 and 2
SUBJECT:
SUMMARY
OF MEETING HELD MARCH 15, in88, TO DISCUSS STATUS OF HATCH AND V0GTLE LICENSING ACTIONS On March 15, 1988, the staff met with representatives of the Georgia Power Company at the Region II offices in Atlanta to discuss the status of licensing actions and activities for the Hatch and Vogtle Nuclear Plants.
Participants are listed in Enclosure 1. outlines the topics discussed during the meeting.
There are several outstanding licensing submittals for the Hatch units that are of particular importance to the licensee.
These are listed in Enclosure 3.
All except the requested change to a 40-year life from OL issuance are currently in various stages of review by the staff and should be issued within the next two or three months. also provides a listing of new amendment requests that the licensee probably will be submitting within the next few months, and a listing of meetings and inspections tentatively scheduled for the next few months.
The status of the Hatch Units as of the date of the meeting was discussed briefly. An outline of the status is provided in Enclosure 4.
At the time of the meeting, Hatch Unit I was operating at 100% power and Unit 2 was completing its 7th refueling outage. Enclosure 4 also lists the major activities accomplished during the outage.
A 1.isting of the discussion topics regarding Vogtle Unit 1 is presented in.
The plant has had two trips since the first of the year, both caused by equipment failure, with a resultant low capacity factor for the first two months.
The capacity factor for 1987 was 70.7%. also outlines the results of the Vogtle Unit 1 January 1988 maintenance outage and the plan for the 1988 refueling outage originally scheduled to begin in mid-September. This outage may slip several weeks due to the plant downtime earlier this year.
It appears that overlapping outages between the Vogtle and Hatch Units do not cause problems e.v. cept for a possibility of competing demands on the time of the ISI technicians who come from Southern Companv Services.

~, also presents a listing of upcoming meetings ~ regarding Vogtle Unit 1, submittals now under review by the staff and additional sebmittals scheduled for the near future, as well as issues that are pending.
The status of.Vogtle Unit 2 construction was discussed briefly, but without getting into particular detail.
It was agreed that the next quarterly meeting should be held at one of the-plant sites. The date and place will be detennined later.
