%d Docket No. 50-424 License No. NPF-68 Georgia Power Company
- TN: Mr. James P. O'Reilly Senior Vice President-Nuclear Operations P. O. Box 4545 Atlanta, GA 30302 Gentlemen:
SUBJECT:
MEETING
SUMMARY
- V0GTLE FACILITY, UNIT 1, DOCKET N0. 50-424 Thit refers to the management meeting conducted at our request at the Vogtle site on January 19, 1988.
This meeting was the fifth periodic meeting held to discuss Vogtle Unit 1 operating performance and corrective action results since April 1987.
It is our opinion that these meetings have been beneficial in providing a comprehensive review of the Vogtle Unit 1 operating performance problems; Georgia Power Company's management of these problen areas; the management pressures and corrective actions that have been brought to betr; and the results of those actions.
These in-depth presentations have enabled the NRC to better assess the issues.
As discussed during the January 19, 1988, meeting, Vogtle Unit 1 improved performance since July 1987 is indicative that management of the operational problems has been successful; therefore, the sixty-day periodic management meetings are no longer warranted.
As mentioned during the meeting it may be prudent to hold a meeting prior to the end of the current Systematic Assessment of Licensee Performance to discuss plant performance.
In accordance with Section 2.790 of NRC's "Rules of Practice," Part 2, Title 10, Code of Federal Regulations, a copy of this letter and its enclosures will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
Should you have any questions concerning this letter, we will be pleased to discuss them.
Sincerely, 8802160249 880210 ADOCK0500g4 DR J. Nelson Grace Regional Administrator
