vacuum breaker valve had opened due to an improperly -

terminated wire in the vacuum breaker handswitch. . The handswitch was correctly reassembled. Approximately 200 additional similar connections were inspected but no simi*ar deficiencies were noted. This event was assigned as LER 97-009. ,

SUMMARY

OF OPERATING EXPERIENCE October 1997 1he unit began the month at 100% power.: -

- On 10/24/97 at 0917 an automatic reactor trip occurred due to 'a Main Turbine trip. The Main Turbine tripped due to a loss of condenser vacuum. Trouble shooting identiDed that a loose wire strand in the -

__ vacuum breaker valve handswitch shorted and caused the vacuum breaker valve to go fully open.

Repairs were made to the handswitch and following inspection of similar connections, the er.it was restored to critical operation. The unit was paralleled to the grid on 10/26/97 at 0026 and reached 100%

power at 1100.

The unit operated at 100% power for the remainder of the month.
