Subject:

Interim Repcrt of 10CFR50.55(e) Item en Spacing of Cencrete Anchors (442) .

Dear Mr. Keppler:

On March 26, 1981, Detroit Edisen's Mr. H.A. Walker, Supervisor - Cen-structicn Cuality Assurance, telephcned Mr. G. Fiore11i of NRC Regicn III, to report en a problem with spacing of cencrete anchors at the Fermi 2 Site.

These anchers wurn used to support pipe suppcrts, cable trays, air condi-tiening ducts and other items. Mini:=n spacing is specified on engineer-ing documents and a neber of installations have been noted where this minimum spacing require:aant has been violated. This appears to be occur-ing in areas where two different centractors are rounting supports adja-cent to each other. For instance, a neber of cases were noted where piping supports and cable tray or ccnduit suppcrts were mounted sida by side. Apparently, construction perscnnel as well as quality contrcl inspectors were not paying c1csc attenticn to other contractors irstalla-tions.

Another report en this item, either interi:n or final, is scheduled to be sent to you cn or before Aucust 21, 1981. If ycu have questicns concern-ing this ratter, please contact Mr. H.A. Walker, Supervisor - Ccnstruction Quality Issurance.

Very truly ycurs, r

Donald A. Wells, Manager Quality Assurance D;JJ/HAN/pn O
