Page 1 of 1 Doc ke t No . 50-338 Report No. LER 79-103/03tc0 Description of Event On September 4,1979, during the performance of the monthly surveillance test, the lube oil pressure for the motor driven auxiliary feedwater pump 1-FW-P-3A was observed to be lower than usual. The pump's lube oil strainer was removed for maintenance rendering 1-FW-P-3A inoperable. This event is contrary to T.S. 3.7.1.2.a. .

Probable Consequences of Occurrence The consequences of this event were limited because the redundant motor driven auxiliary feedwater pump as well as the steam driven auxiliary feedwater pump were both available for operation if required. As a result, the public health and safety were not af fected by this event. There are no generic implications associated with this occurrence.

Cause of Occurrence The low lube oil pressure was caused by the lube oil strainer being partially clogged.

Immediate Corrective Action The lube oil strainer was removed and disassembled to allow for cleaning.

Af ter being thoroughly cleaned, the strainer was adjusted and reinstalled.

Scheduled Corrective Action No scheduled corrective action required.

Actions Taken to Prevent Recurrence No further actions are required.
