(IRPI) deviated from the group demand position by greater than 12 steps on the following dates and rods:

January 08, 1983 - Rod B-08 in Control Bank "D" January 14, 1983 - Rod H-02.in Control Bank "D" January 16, 1983 - Rod F-06 in Control Bnnk "D" January 22, 1983 - Rod H-02 in Control Bank "D" In each case, the unit power level was in the process of changing or had recently completed a change in power. These events are contrary to T.S. 3.1.3.2 and reportable pursuant to T.S. 6.9.1.9.b.

Probable Consequences of Occurrence

'- Operability of Control Rod Position Indication is required to determine rod position and thereby ensure compliance with the control rod alignment and insertion limits. Since the control rods were not misaligned and~the position indication was properly restored within 8 hours9.259259e-5 days <br />0.00222 hours <br />1.322751e-5 weeks <br />3.044e-6 months <br />, there was no effect on the safe operation of the plant. As a result, the health and safety of the general public were not af fected.

4 Cause of Event i The cause of the disagreement in Rod Position Indication was 3

instrument drift.

Immediate Corrective Action The Rod Position Indicator Channels for B-08 H-02 and F-06 were satisfactorily recalibrated and returned to service.

Scheduled Corrective Action No further action required.

i Actions Taken to Prevent Recurrence i

No further action required.

Generic Implications The drift associated with this Position Indicating System has been a generic problem at North Anna Units 1 and 2.
