Docket Nos. 50-317 & 50-318 Violation of Tecnnical Specification 3.7.6.1 LER 80-51 This is to confirm our verbal notification to Mr. Ralph Architzel of your office of a failure of both 11 and 12 control room air conditioning units (Tech. Speci 3.7.6.1) at Calvert Cliffs units one and two as required by Tecnnical Specification o.9.1.8 (Prompt Notification with written follow-up). Tne event and cause descriptions are as follows:

At 1930 on September 11, 1980, 12 control room air conditioning unit was shutdown to perform post maintenance testing of 11 control room air conditioning unit. 11 A/C unit failed to start, an attempt was madetto restart 12 A/C unit, however it also failed to start. 12 A/C unit was restarted at 2005 after corrective maintenance was performed. 11 A/C unit was repaired and satisfactorily returned to service at 1315 on 9/12/80.

The control room air temperature did not exceed tne design limit of 1200 F and botn filter trains remained operable during the event.

A couplete cescription of the failures and a description of tne corrective action will be contained in tne follow-up report.
