Grand Gulf Nuclear Statien Units 1 and 2 Docket Nos. 50-416/417 File 0260/15525/15526 PRD-80/41, Status Report, Defective Impervitran Transformer AECM-80/184 On July 11, 1980, Mississippi Power & Light notified Mr. F.

Cantrell of your offic'e of a Potentially Reportable Deficiency (PRD) at the Grand, Gulf Nuclear Station (GCNS) construction site.

The deficiency pertains to a defective control transformer used at a circuit breaker in a Motor Control Center (MCC).

The MCC supplies power to a Motor Operated Valve (MOV) in the High Pressure Core Spray (HPCS) System. The transformer operated during the scheme checking of the circuit but failed when the MOV was connected.

Our investigation into this condition is in progress. We ex-pect to complete the investigation and determine reportability under both 10CFR50.55(e)1and 10CFR21 by November 20, 1980.
