Attachment to AECM-81/133 Page 1 of 1 STATUS REPORT NO. 1 FOR PRD-81/19 I. Description of the Deficiency This deficiency concerns wire terminations in junction bczes located in Power Generation Control Complex (PGCC) termination caMaets. The junction boxes, supplied by General Electric, have mechanical connections (screws which tighten onto the wire strands). The screws appear not to have full thread engagement on No. 8 AWG and smaller wire. ' The potential exists that the screws could become loose and/or damage to the conductors could occur. Initial evaluation showed that all plant systems could be affected.

II. Approach to Resolution of the Problem The vendor has been requested to evaluate this potential deficiency.

III. Status of the Proposed Resolution The vendor's evaluation as to the reportability of this matter under 10CFR50.55(e) has been received. The vendor has determined that the deficiency does not adversely affect safe operation of the plant.

MP&L's engineering group is evaluating the vendor's rationale to substantiate the determination of non-reportability.

IV. Reason Why A Final Report Will Be Delayed MP&L has not completed its review of the completed vendor evaluation.

V. Date When A Final Report Will Be Submitted We expect to submit a final report on this matter by August 3,1981.
