GinnaCRDRSupplemental ReportdatedJuly14,1987

DearMr.Stahle:

AsapartoftheControlRoomDesignReview(CRDR),anextensive soundlevelsurveyoftheGinnaControlRoomwasperformed.

Theresultsofthestudyindicated thatcertainalarmsystemsdidnot'fallwithintheguidelines ofNUREG-0700,thereby,requiring systemmodifications.

Thereferenced submittal described thosemodifications, andothers,andcommitted.

thatworkassociated withGinnaControlRoomalarmsystemswouldbecompleted byJune30,1988.Themodifications weretochangecertainControlRoomalarmstoachievedistinguishable soundlevelswhencomparedtotheannunciator alarmwhichwastobethereference.

Thereferenced letteralsostatedthattheannunciator alarmlevelwasnot10dBAabovebackground levelassuggested, bytheNUREG,butapproximately 5dBAabovethebackground noiselevel.RG&Ejustified leavingtheannunciator alarmatthislevelsinceitwasadequately distinctive andnon-irritating withinitsenvirons.

Allotheralarmswouldthenbesetattherequired.

+2.5dBA.oftheannunciator, alarmlevel.Allmodifications werecompleted asscheduled, however,testingofthealarmsystemsscheduled forJune30wascancelled becauseof.equipment failure.Subsequent testsofthebackground soundlevelindicated a1dBAincreaseintheleveloverthatoftheApril1987survey(initialsurvey)andconcurrently showedthattheannunciator soundlevel'haddecreased belowtheinitialsurvey.Thesounddifferential, therefore, wasunacceptable.
