Oregon State University TRIGA Reactor (OSTR), Docket k%[ No. 50-243, License No. R-106 In accordance with section 6.7.e of the OSTR Technical Specifications, we (wim are hereby submitting the Annual Report of the Oregon State University qg3 Radiation Center and TRIGA Reactor for the period July 1,1992 through 1, ,y; June 30,1993. Please note that we are also using this letter of transmittal to send copies of the current report to Mr. Al Adams, OSTR Project Manager, USNRC, Washington, D.C.; to Mr. Don Carlson, Division of Reactor inspection & Safeguards, USNRC, Washington, D.C.; and to the n .u on n, a ( < " " ' *"

m unn.o mm, The 1992-93 annual report continues the pattern established over the past few years and includes inf ormation about the entire Radiation Center rather 4 than concentrating primarily on the reactor. Because the report addresses a number of different interests, it is rather lengthy, but we have incorpo-rated a short executive summary which highlights the Center's activities and accomplishments over the past year.

As a brief introduction to the current annual report, I am pleased to note that the Radiation Center experienced another busy and successful year.

The reector continued to be a focal point of our operation and showed increases in essentially all operating parameters, including total operating hours, total hours at full power, the number of " Irradiation Requests" processed, and the number of samples irradiated. Efforts to increase the efficiency of our operation and the availability of the reactor were also successful and resulted in a four-fold increase in the number of occasions when four users were being supported by a single reactor run. Along with this expanded accommodation of four multiple users, use by two or three g,,, experimenters during the same reactor run remained near last year's record m . ,, 2 m highs.

.- mo In addition to the reactor, many other aspects of the Radiation Center's program grew during the past year. For example, 78 OSU classes were accommodated in Center teaching f acilities, which represents an all-time high for the second consecutive year. In addition, the Westinghouse AP600 reactor system was nearly completed and the project experienced another maior increase in scope.

USNRC October 29,1993 Scholarly publications involving a contribution by the Radiation Center totalled 80, while there were 66 presentations at professional meetings where the Center supported the development of the research data being reported.

The cobalt-60 irradiators also continued to be heavily used and enabled us to accommodate gamma irradiations for a wide range of investigators and a great diversity of applications. As in previous years, the Radiation Center hosted a large number of Wsitors (over 1500) and continued to provide specialized technical support to a number of state agencies.

In surnming up the past year, all of us at the Radiation Center are very pleased and grateful that our program has gone well and that we have been able to make a positive contribution to many of OSU's goals. We hope that you will find the current report to be informative and I interesting. Should there be any questions, please let me know.
