ENCLOSURE TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY RESPONSES PERFORMANCE AUDIT INSPECTION REPORT OF BROWNS FERRY NUCLEAR PLANT (BFN)~Findin 1 The condenser tube pullout area has been addressed in the current National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (HPDES)permit renewal application.
It should be noted that this discharge was identified in the 1979 permit and later removed in the 1984 permit when it was determined that the area would not be used.Subsequently, activities resumed in November 1986, at which time BFH resumed sampling and analysis on each batch discharged, which continues today.~Findhn 2 As a part of the HPDES renewal package TVA has requested that Discharge Serial Numbers (DSNs)107 and 110 be routed to the sewage lagoon (DSN ill), which, if approved, will eliminate the need for flow measurement of these waste streams.101-Diffuser Discharge Structure Flow-Each condenser cooling water pump has been recently rebuilt. The pump ratings will be calibrated before unit operation and annually thereafter.
102-Sedimentation Pond Effluent-an ISCO series 2300 flow metering device has been purchased and was used to measure flow when the sedimentation pond was in operation.
103 and 104-Units 1/2/3 Turbine Building Sumps and Liquid Radwaste Effluent-BFH is presently investigating several alternatives for providing more accurate flow measurement capabilities at this DSN.ill-Treated Domestic Waste-a"V" notch weir and ISCO series 2300 flow measuring unit are presently being used at this DSH.~Fin din 3 In addition to the temperature measurement methodology observed by the inspector, instrumentation presently exists in the main control room at BFN which measures and records temperature on a continuous basis at DSN 105.These measurements are made on the exit of the residual heat removal heat exchanger prior to entering the Tennessee River.
