Description of Deficiency The Grand Gulf Nuclear Station uses reactor recirculation pumps supplied by ITT Grinnell. An inspection performed by this vendor revealed that certain hanger components they supplied with the Unit I reactor recirculation pumps had loose threads exceeding tolerances. These components and associated part numbers were as follows:

Grand Gulf Nuclear Station Units 1 and 2 Docket Nos. 50-416/41M File 0260/15525/15526 PRD-80/65, Status Report, Uait 1 Defective Recirculation Puup Esager Co ponents AECM.-80/293 On October 27, 1980, Mississippi Power & Light Co pany noti-fied Mr. J. Rausch of yout office of a Potentially Reportable Defi-ciency (P'.D) at the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station (GGNS) construction site. This deficiency concerned the inspection of the recirculation pu=p hanger co=ponents supplied by ITT Grinnell. The co=ponents had loose threads which exceeded the vendor's tolerances as evaluated by an ITT Grinnell representative.

Our investigation as to the reportability of this issue is still in progress. Thus far cur investigation has not identified condi-tions which would be reportable under 10CFR50.55(e) or 10CFR1}. We expect to provide yoa our final report on this =atter by March 4, 1981. These actions are being tracked under Bechtel Quality Action Request F-252. Our status report is attached.

These components and associated part numbers were as follows:

a. Clevis, four (4) each: Q1B33G002H301A, E301B, E302B, H304B
b. Coupling (Turnbuckle), one (1) each: QlB33G002H302A
c. Large Rods, 2b" X 5'8h", two (2) each: Q1B33G002E302A, H302B
d. Constant Support Springs, three (3) each: QlB33G002E301A, H301B, H303A This finding was reported on Bechtel Condition Report CR 4553.

II. ,Pcoposed Resolution of the Deficiency Mississippi Power & Light Company is working with the constructor, the NSSS supplier, and the vendor to resolve this deficiency by performing the following actions:

a. Deter =ine the cause of the deficiency.
b. Identify corrective action and action to prevent recurrence.
c. Determine the effect on the safety of plant operations over the lifetime of the plant.

III. Status of the Proposed Resolution General Electric is evalucting the infor=ation supplied to them by IIT Grinnell on this matter and will respond by January 1981.

We expect to complete the evaluation and determine reportability no later than March 4, 1981. -
