Subject:

10CFR50.55(e) on Damaged Penetrations at Enrico Femi Nuclear

~

Power Plant, Unit 2.

Dear fir. Fiorelli:

On August 24, 1979, Mr. H.A. Walker, of the Detroit Edison Quality Assurance Department, telephoned Mr. R.C. Knop of NRC Region III to report a 10CFR50.55(e) reportable deficiency item dealing with damage to Primary Containment Penetration X-17 at the Femi 2 Site. Further investigation revealed that sixteen (16) Type I penetrations assem-blies, which were manufactured by Tube Turns, ha'd been installed in a misaligned condition.

Tube Turns is evaluating each penetration assembly to determine if the installed deflections coincident with the anticipated drywell nozzle movements are within the design limits of movement and cyclic life for that particular penetration. This evaluation will detemine corrective actions to be taken.

Octroit Edison Engineering has not yet received this final evaluation report from Tube Turns. A final report is now expected by June 30, 1980.

If you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact us.

Sincerely yours, m . $CLh uM_ .
