  • Kenneth W Berry Director Nuclear Licensing Consumers Power Company provides this written follow-up notification of the failure of three Ashcroft glycerin filled bourdon tube pressure gauges that failed at pressure within their operating range. The three gauges were located on the diesel generator secondary fuel oil filter. All have the same identification stamp on the back of the gauge. The stamping is a circled 7, a circled Qll, followed by XS. The bourdon tubes on two of the gauges were found with a separated weld. The third bourdon tube separated from the sensing port. The gauges were supplied from Dresser Industries Instrument Division, 250 E Main Street, Stratford, Connecticut.

The gauges are 0-100 psig type 1009 Duralife pressure gauges. Verbal notification was provided to Mr Bruce Burgess, USNRC Region III on May 23, 1988. Corrective action has been to replace the faulty gauges. Further corrective action will be to locate and replace all gauges, with the same identification stamp, by July 1, 1988. No further advice is suggested at this time. The responsible individual for corrective action is Mr M D King, Mechanical System Engineering Section Supervisor.
