The information is as initially received without verification or evaluation, anci is basically all that is known by the Region-IV staff on this date.

SUBJECT:

SHUTDOWN IN EXCESS OF 48 HOURS At about 8:57 a.m., August 30, 1988, Houston Lighting & Power Company (HL&P) {

began a shutdown from approximately 45 percent power to repair a main steam vent ,

line leak at kath Texas Project, Unit 1 (STP-1). HL&P anticipates -

approximely 24 hours2.777778e-4 days <br />0.00667 hours <br />3.968254e-5 weeks <br />9.132e-6 months <br /> to reach cold shutdown (Mode 5) condition and an l addnional 48 hours5.555556e-4 days <br />0.0133 hours <br />7.936508e-5 weeks <br />1.8264e-5 months <br /> to complete repairs and inspections. HL&P discovered the l leak coming from a socket weld in a 1-inch main steam vent line associated with ,

the high point vent of the A steam generator while performing maintenance in the i reactor containment building during the evening of August 29, 1988. The i licensee intends to inspect similar socket welds on main steam and main feed vent lines inside containment during the shutdown.

Neither the licensee nor the NRC plans to issue a press release.
