SUBJECT:

DIESEL GENERATOR FAILURE the licensee discovered a problem with one of At theapproximately 10:30 a.m.

Unit I diesel generators (DG)(CST),(Cooper-Bessemer) requiring it to be shutdown. The DG was in the sixteenth hour of a 24-hour preoperational test.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the problem may be a stuck intake valve push rod. The DG was shutdown and is being repaired by the licensee.

Neither the licensee nor the NRC plans to issue a press release.

Region IV received notification of this occurrence from the Senior Resident Inspector. IE and NRR have been contacted.

This information has been confirmed with a licensee representative.
