10 CFR 2.206 PETITION REGARDING WOLF CREEK (INQ. 85-49) l On May 30, 1985, the Office of Inspector and Auditor (OIA) became aware of and requested a copy of a May 15, 1985, 10 CFR 2.206 Petition filed by the GOVERN-MENT ACCOUNTABILITY PROJECT (GAP) on behalf of the NUCLEAR AWARENESS NETWORK.

01A's request for a copy of the Petition was made to James LIEBERMAN, Director and Chief Counsel, Regional Operations and Enforcement, Office of the Executive Legal Director. LIEBERMAN forwarded a copy of it to 01A that same day.

The May 15, 1985, cover letter from GAP that transmitted the Petition cora rning Wolf Creek Nuclear Station to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory fummission (NRC) identifies four items which GAP requests the NRC to address.

Althogh the items in the cover letter and Petition elude to inadequate perfremance on the part of NRC staff, none of the four items GAP identified requf re OIA attention at this time. Rather, GAP has requested the Comission to direct the NRC staff offices allegedly involved to provide their respective responses to the allegations of inadequate performance to the Commissioners.

Based on a review of the Petition and pursuant to discussions of th4 matter on May 31, 1985, with you, 01A will not initiate further action at this time.
