Subject:

SPILL OF RADI0 ACTIVE WATER ON ITE At about 8:25 a.m. approximately 150 gallons of radioactive water over-flowed a disposable resin cask in a truck and spilled onto the ground

> outside the radwaste building. The estimated activity is 20 millicuries. (

The licensee contained the spilled water on the site with vermiculite and i measurements at the fence' indicate no off site problems. Smears were taken with the highest readings found being 41,000 dpm/ square foot. Cleanup is in progress and should be completed by midnight June 10. About 400 square -

feet are involved. No personnel were contaminated.

A local newspaper is reported to be aware of the spill.

Media interest is expected because of similar previous event at Pilgrim.

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts has been and is being kept informed.

A NRC press release is not planned.

Region I, NRC, Philadelphia, Pa. received notification of this occurrence by telephone call from the licensee at 3:45 pm June 10.
