LABORERS STRIKE AT PILGRIM This morning, striking laborers established a picket line at the contractor entrance to the Pilgrim site. About 80 laborers employed by the chief contractor onsite, Bechtel, staged a wildcat walkout on May 1, 1986 in response to disciplinary action against a worker. The striking laborers were subsequently fired. Other contractor craft personnel are honoring the picket line. A rock throwing incident has been reported. Thus far, the strike has only affected contractor workers performing construction or nonessential operational activities (e.g., decontamination work).
The plant is currently shutdown for a maintenance outage. Outage critical path work is costly staffed by licensee personnel and is not expected to be affected.
