Docket Nos.: 50-424 and 50-425  ; 9 ggy jg APPLICANT: Georgia Power Company FACILITY: Vogtle Electric Generating Plant, Units 1 and 2

SUBJECT:

SUMf'ARY OF !!EETING HELD OCTOBER 16, 1986 ON ELECTRICAL SEPARATION CRITERIA, (RG. 1.75)

Cn October 16, 1986, the staff net with the applicant and its representatives to discuss the issue of electrical separaticn (RG 1.75) for Vogtle Units 1 and 2. Participants are listed in the enclosure.

The applicant presented information (Wyle Labs test reports) on their Class IE cables to meet the criteria in P,egulatory Guide 1.75, relating to the physical independence of electrical cables. The Wyle test reports had shown sone damage to the outer jackets of the cables, although the cables were still fully functional. The applicant hed stated that other test reports had shown that aging of the cable insulation gave improved fire resistance to the cables and this indicated that aging was not a problem with the Class 1E cables.

After reviewing the information presented at the n.eeting, the staff agreed to reexamine the Wyle test reports for Class IE cables, and to determine what would he acceptable to meet the RG 1.75 criteria. The staff agreed to promptly decide what the acceptance criteria would be, and to inform the applicant of the decision.
