Dear Mr. Keppler:

The above References provided information concerning a potential deficiency reportable pursuant to 10 CFR 50.55(e) regaroing deficient welds on certain ASME Section III tanks and heat ,

exchangers at our Braidwood Station. The purpose of this letter is to provide an updated status of the corrective actions taken to resolve this issue. This letter is considered to be an Interim Report.

STATUS OF CORRECTIVE ACTIONS As previously identified, Chicago Bridge & Iron (CB&I) has completed their inspections of the Recycle Hold-Up Tanks and Heat Exchangers (OAB0lTA, CAB 0lTB, and OAB03Tl&2) under the scope of Commonwealth Edison Nonconformance Report (NCR) 694. All welds found to be not in accordance with drawing requirements were either repaired or dispositioned to " accept as-is". Commonwealth Edison Project Construction Department utilized this information to review the remaining CB&I tanks to determine if similar welding deficiencies existed. The CB&1 inspection of the remaining six (6) tanks (lD0lTA-TD & 200lTA&TB) is complete. CB&I is currently evaluating the inspection results in accordance with NCR 694. The-results of this evaluation will be submitted to Sargent & Lundy for their review and approval.
