o Attachment to ANPP- 34347 PALO VERDE NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION UNIT 1 RADIATION MONITORING UNIT NOT RESTORED WITHIN 72 HOURS Docket No. STN-50-528 License No. NPF-41 Special Report No. 1-SR-85-032 At 2026 on November 28, 1985, the 72 hour8.333333e-4 days
0.02 hours
1.190476e-4 weeks
2.7396e-5 months
action statement for operability of the containment high range radiation monitor (RU-148) was exceeded. The monitor was declared inoperable at 2026 on Nove.-ber 25, 1985 due to a detector high voltage failure alarm. A work authorization document was issued to troubleshoot the cause of the alarms, and the problem was identified to be inside containment.

Emergency Plac Implementing Procedure #14A, which allows the use of external detec-tors (RU-158 B&C, or RU-37 & 38) when the containment high range monitors are inoper-able, is a compensatory measurp in this event.

The root cause of this event appears to be a defective part.

The corrective action, to be performed during the first planned outage (scheduled for March, 1986), is to restore this monitor to operable status. The corrective action will be completed during this outage to minimize personnel exposure inside the containment.

A special report is required and made pursuant to Action 27-3 of Palo Verde Unit 1 Technical Specification Table 3.3-6 and Technical Specification 6.9.2. A follow-up report is scheduled for submittal by April 1, 1986.
