PALO VERDE NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION Special Report 2-SR-86-030 CONTAINMENT BUILDING ATN0 SPHERE PARTICULATE CHANNEL NOT RESIDRED WITHIN 72 HOURS.
. Docket No. 50-529~
License No. NPF-51
-This:special report is being submitted in accordance with Palo Verde Unit 2 Technical Specification Table 3.3-6,. Action 27.
At 2'210 on September 24,1986,.'Palo Verde Unit 2 was in Mode 3 (HOT ' STANDBY) when the Containment Building. Atmosphere Particulate Channel was declared inoperable 1because the channel readout was. showing no change in activity level.
Initial indications were that the~ monitor's a'ssociated computer was experiencing spurious memory losses.
In accordance with Action 27, a moveable air monitor was placed in line.
Troubleshooting of the monitor did'not indicate that.the computer was experiencing memory losses. Troubleshooting of the detector was then conducted. The-detector was determined;to be working satisfactorily.
The Containment. Building Atmosphere Particulate channel is a rate'of change monitor. 'Under certain steady state conditions the particulate channel readout may show little or no change. in activity level. - Since no deficiencies could be
'found, the particulate channel was returned to service af ter successful completion of the applicable surveillance test.
e The particulate channel was declared operable at 0730 on September 29, 1986.
