Dear Mr. Hutchinson:

l This is in response to your letter of November 4,1996, requesting deferrat of the planned i NRC Design Basis inspection of the Arkansas Nuclear One (ANO) facility untillate summer 1 1997. As discussed in our telephone conversation on November 12, and with Mr. Jerry Yelverton on November 26,1996, we have reviewed your request and have determined that it is appropriate to conduct the inspection as originally scheduled, with an estimated completion of mid-March 1997. However, as we discussed, to minimize the regulatory impact on your staff, we will shift the focus of the design inspection effort from Unit 2 to Unit 1.

You will be notified, in writing, by the Special Inspection Branch, Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation concerning the inspection plan and schedule.
