1 1.0 PURPOSE i
1.1 To provide work instrue:1ons for periodically ceasuring the insulation i
E resistance of rotating electrical equip =en: and/or power cable in order
- o develop an historical record of the condition of the insulation and to deter =ine if :he insulation is clean and drf.
2.0
' SCOPE 2.1 This procedure shall apply to all per=anen: plant three phase indue:1on
=otors.ra:ed one horsepower and above.
2.2 *his procedure shall apply :o generators as qualified in :he applicable Care and Maintenance Instruc:1on (CMI).
2.3 This procedure shall apply to any motor not included in Paragraph 2.1 if the applicable Care and Maintenance Instrue:1on (CMI) requires in-sulation resistance :esting.
E 2.4 This procedure shall apply to the above equip =ent from the time it is received on site to :he ti=e it is turned over to the client.
E 2.5 This procedure shall apply to 480V and above power cables, safety and non-safety, once pulled and after lugs installed but prior to =aking connections.

6.0 PROCIOURE E
6.1 Within 72 hqurs af ter receipt, if required by the applicable CMI, connect the =otor or generator space heater :o a power supply of :he correc:
vol: age.
NOTE: Assure that hea:er is properly wired prior :o energi:ing.
H 6.2 Wi:hin :venty working days after receipt, the =otor or generator shall be iden:1fied by using the nu=ber of :he CMI :o which it is associated.
If = ore than one =otor is a par: of the CMI, an alphabetical suffix will be used to uniquely identify each =otor or generator in a sui:able nanner as near as possible to the na=eplate.
6.3 Within twenty working days af:er receipt, when needed to facili: ate periodic
=easure=en: of :he insulation resistance, connec: all of the =otor winding leads in c~=:en :o a pigtail. For c nnections to generator winding leads, see the applicable CMI. Also provide a pig: ail to the motor or generator -
fra=e.
Bring the two pigtails out of the connection box and seal around
- he opening vi:h an approved sealant or tape.
NOTE: If =otor or generator has been ter=inated as part of the installation sequence or has been supplied already wired into a control circuit or syste=,
l proceed per step 6.5 of this procedure.
H 6.4 Measure the insulation resistance between the =ocor or generator windings and :he fra=e, by means of a polarization index, upon receipt, and every 6 =en:hs thereaf ter, unless specified otherwise in the applicable CMI.
The one =inute reading, can =inute reading as well as the polarization index shall be recorded.

H 6. l. 1 Material Q.C. Inspector' ust witness =eggering of all class IE equipment during varehouse storage.
H 6.4.2 3efore* and af ter the insulatica resistance test is =ade, assure that the Octor vinding insulation has been co=pletely discharged.
CAC !ON: On very large motors under dry conditions and having high insulation resistance (greated than 1000 magoh=s), the time required for co=pletely discharging the vinding insulation =ay be 20 =inutes or more.
G.E 6.4.3 The segger used cust be in accordance with the Ebasco WQC-4 program or approved Contractor's program and the calibration =ust be current. Check date on calibration tag before using /*d /ff8/88 M8I, calibration has not expired.
ID nu=ber and calibration due date
=ust be recorded on testing docu=entation.
For meggering terminated =ocors or generators or those which have been 5.5 supplied already vired into control circuits, systa=s, ete:
H 6.5.1 Test voltage shall be the same as in step 6.4.,
H 6.5.2 Test personnel shall isolate equipment which could be damaged fro: the equipment being =eggered.
If any doubt exists, consult Ebasco Engineering.
H 6.5.3 Meggering is to be performed at the most readily accessible location which is as electrically close to the equipment as possible.
Examples:
a) Load side of MCC contactors and breakers, b)- Load side of power center breakers.
c) Load side of medium voltage switchgear by the use of a "du mf" heeaker for access to line or downstream side and for bus protection l
