Page 1 of 1 Docket No. 50-339 Report No. LER 81-036/03L-0 Description of Event On May 1, 1981, with Unit II at 87% power in mode I, the axial flux-difference was observed to be deviating for the target band (15%) for a period of ten minutes. This event is contrary to T. S. 6.9.1.9.b.

Probable Consequences of Occurrence Since the Axial Flux Difference was brought back within 15% of the

'arget band within fifteen minutes as required by Technical Specifications,

he public health and safety were not affected.

Cause of Event The Axial Flux Difference (> t 5% of target band) was exceeded when , .,

load was reduced in order to perform the turbine valve freedom periodic surveillance test.

Immediate Corrective Action The immediate action was to commence dilution and to insert the rods into the core until the axial flux difference was within the operat-ing band as specified by T.S. 3.2.1.

Scheduled Corrective Action There are no scheduled corrective actions.

Actions Taken to Prevent Recurrence No actions needed to prevent recurrence.

Generic Implications There are no generic implications to this event.
