Page 1 of 1 North Anna Power Station, Unit #1 Docket No. 50-338

-FMport No. LER 80-26/03L-0 Description of Event On February 17,'1980, during the performance of the quarterly valve inservice inspection test, recirculation spray pump casing cooling supply valve MOV-RS100B failed to open from the control room selector switch render-ing the "B" casing cooling subsystem inoperable.- This event is contrary to T.S. 3.6. 2.b. and reportable pursuant to T.S. 6.9.1.9.b.

Probable Consequences of Occurrence The -casing cooling system is provided to supply cold water to the suction piping of the outside recirculation spray pumps for the purpose of increasing the pump net positive suction head. Because ' the "A" casing cooling subsystem remained operable and MOV-RS100B was restored to operable status within the 7 day time limit allowed by the ACTION Statement of T.S. 3.6.2.2, the health and safety of the general public were not affected. There are no generic implications associated with this occurrence.

Cause of Event t Exact cause is unknown and believed to be a random event.

Immediate Corrective Action The valve was manually opened and then satisfactorily cycled several times from the control room.

Scheduled Corrective Action Further investigation will be conducted. The normal periodic surveillance test will be monitored for additional failure of the valve.

Actions Taken to Prevent Recurrence

. No actions are required at this time.
