Dear Mr. Schwencer:

The following information was requested by Mr. N. Romney during a telephone call on July 2, 1982. This completes our actions on the masonry walls issue.

The two block walls (calculated by the incorrect SRSS Method) in question are located in the Emergency Personnel Decontamination Station - Reactor Building, EL 719 -1':

The three foot long block wall in Room PI-404 has a. sink and shower head attached - no safety impact items are affected by this wall. PPIrL QA has verified this. The tentative fix will be to remove the sink (support off floor) supports located on the wall. This will red'uce the load combinations (including OBE + SRV due to the attachment) on the wall and the resulting wall stresses will be within the allowable stresses (using absolute summation methods) previously established.

The eleven foot (+) long block wall in Room OI-405 has a bench attached to it. Contrary to the conversations with .the NRC, failure of this wall may have a safety impact on HVAC ducts in the vicinity of the wall. Therefore, this bench attachment will be removed from the wall prior to fuel load.

Since this is the only major attachment to this wall, load combinations (including OBE SRV + due to the attachment) will be reduced and the resulting wall stresses will be within the allowable stresses (using absolute summation methods) previously established. PP&L QA has verified these conditions.
