Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C. 20555 SUSQUEHANNA STEAM ELECTRIC STATION RESPONSE TO NRC CONCERNS ON REVISED RESPONSE SPECTRA ER 100450 FILE 841-2 Docket Nos. 50-387 PLA-1159 388

Dear Mr. Schwencer:

The following information is provided: in response to recent NRC concerns about the revised seismic response spectra. Piping system frequencies were reviewed against frequencies that had higher "g" loadings. Piping systems having fundamental frequencies. in the vertical direction at or near the new peak accelerations were analyzed. All systems that were not analyzed, were determined not to have significant vertical mode frequencies, at the new peak accelerations.

.PP&L will commit to applying the revised response spectra, generated as a result of the recent vertical dynamical model assessment, to future design for Susquehanna. It will take several months to revise the specifications for design work to include the new response spectra.

Once this is accomplished, design work will be performed in accordance with these revised specifications. We anticipate this will occur before the end of 1982.

Very truly yours, cm~ -,
