Gentlemen:

In conversation with Mr. E. Fredenburg of the Washington Public Power Supply System, your office requested copies of two Burns and Roe documents identified as References 17 and 19 in Reference (a) above.

The Reference 17 document presents results of a study performed by Burns and Roe for General Electric Company.

We have initiated efforts to obtain permission from Genexal Electric Company to submit the Reference 17 document to the Commission. In the meanwhile, you may wish to note that this study examined in more detail the improVed modeling techniques and structural analysis methods presented in Chapter 7 of our Report entitled nSRV Loads Improved Definition and Application Methodology for Mark (Reference ll of the Reference (a} report) and provided II Containments" additional comparisons of predicted responses with measured responses. The conclusion reached in Section 7.5 of this document namely, "The agreement. between the measured and predicted building response is quite good in terms of both amplitude and frequency" is reinforced by the Referenced 17 study.

Nuclear Regulatory Commission September 1, 1981 The Reference 19 document, presents results of Fukushima Dai-Ni Unit 3 containment response analysis to the LOCA steam condensation loads performed by Burns and Roe for the Toshiba Corporation. It is referred to in the footnote on page 62 of the Reference (a) report in relation to the justification of this 1.17 factor applied to JAERI data shown in Figure 5-6 of the Reference (a) report. As such, the entire Reference 19 document is not needed to review the Reference (a) report. To assist you in your review process, instead of the entire Reference 19 document, the complete information required for justification of the 1.17 factor is provided in the attachment to this letter entitled, "Reduction Ratio for Pool Boundary Pressures to Accsunt for Reduction in Number of Vents from Seven to Six in a 20 Segment of the Pool."
