Duringthe1982refuelingoutage,RG&Ereplacedthemotor-to-leadspliceinsulationwithqualifiedRaychemsleeves(designatedasCategoryI.aintheFRCTER).ItemNumbers29,30-CoolingfansformotorsforRHR,Charging,SI,andCSpumps.AsnotedinRG&E'sreference69,WestinghouseReport71-1C2-RADMC-Rlentitled"EffectsofRadiationonInsulatingMaterialsUsedinWestinghouseMediumMotors",alltypicalmaterialsandcombinationsusedinthemotors,includingconnectionsandgreases,havebeentestedbyWestinghouse.Theonlyadverseenvironmentwhichmightbeexperiencedbythesemotorsisradiation,whichhasbeenconservativelyestimatedat2.8x10rads.Asnotedinthetestresults,onlyPolyesterandTeflonwereatallsusceptibletodegradationatthislevelofradiation.Thesematerialsarenotusedinourmotors.Thus,RG&Ehasconcludedthatthemotorsarequalifiedfortheirintendedservices.Itisalsonotedinthereportthat.thesemotorshaveanexpectedoperatinglifeof20years.Sincethemotorsareusedintermittently,andarenotoperatedattheirmaximumratingatalltimes,a40-yearlifecanbeexpected.Further,allfansandmotorsarelubricatedandinspectedonaperiodic(roughlyoneyear)basisinaccordancewiththeGinnaStationpreventivemaintenanceprogram.ThesearedetailedprimarilyinproceduresA-1011,PM-2,PM-3,andM-45.2Ifanysignsofdegradationareapparent,majormaintenancesuchasinsulationreplacementisscheduledandperformedinaccordancewiththesemaintenanceprocedures.Thus,theRG&Eprogramensuresthatfailureduetoagingisminimized.EquipmentItemNo.33-Terminalblocks.AsnotedinRG&E'February1,1983submittal,theseterminalblockswerereplacedwithRaychemsleevesduringtheSpring1982refuelingoutage.EquipmentItemNumbers34,35-KeriteCableinContainment.AsnotedinourFebruary1,1983submittal,RG&EconsidersthefullrangeofKeritepowerandcontrolcableusedatGinnatobeproperlyenvironmentallyqualified.However,wehavereceivedanotherreportfromKeritedocumentingenviron-mentalqualificationforcableusedatGinna.Thisproprietaryreport,isattachedasReference78.Theconfidentialattachmentsarenotbeingsubmitted;however,theyareavailableforreviewatRG&E.

AsnotedinthecoverlettertothisreferencethetestingwasperformedforaNo.16AWGconductor,ratherthan'o.10AWG.Basedonacomparisonoftheinsulationandjacket.thicknesses,itisconsideredthatthedifferencesareinsignificant.Thus,itcanbeconcludedthat,theKeritecableinstalledatGinnaisproperlyenvironmentallyqualified.EquipmentItemNumbers37,38-Colemancableinsideandoutsidecontainment.InRG&E'sletterofSeptember7,1981aresponsewasprovidedrelativetotheradiationqualificationoftheColemancable(i.e.,DORGuidelinesaremet).InRG&E'sletterofFebruary1,1983,Reference76wasprovidedtoshowthatthematerialsofconstructionofthecableoutsidecontainmentcouldmeetandexceedtherequiredpost-accidentdose.RG&Ethusconsiderstheseitemstoberesolved.EquipmentItemNumbers39,40-RomeandGeneralCableOutsideContainment.Reference76wasprovidedasanattachment.toourFebruary1,1983letter.Thisreferenceprovidedthenecessaryradiationqualificationinformationforthematerialofconstructionofthiscable;thus,RGGEconsiderstheseitemsresolved.EquipmentItemNumbers41-47,49Transmitters.AllofthesetransmittershavebeenreplacedwithFoxboroNE-Seriestransmitters.Seethediscussionforitem3ofAttachment1toourFebruary1,1983letter.Equipment,ItemNumber48.BASTleveltransmitters.TheBASTleveltransmittersarelocatedintheauxiliarybuilding,andprovidesignalstoautomaticallyswitchthesuctionsourceoftheSafetyInjectionPumpsfromtheBASTtotheRWST.Thisfunctioniscompletedbeforetherewouldbeanysumprecirculation.Thus,thesetransmittersarerequiredtoperformasafetyfunctionina"mild"environment.Equipment,ItemNo.50-ReactorCoolantTemperatureRTD's.AsnotedinourFebruary1,1983submittal,RG6Edoesnotat,thistimeconsidertheTCRTD'stoberequiredforoperationinaharshenvironment.RMEwillhaveinstalledqualifiedConaxRTD'sinthehotlegsbytheendofthe1984refuelingoutage.TheseRTD'sarerelieduponforinputtothesaturationmeter.Thecoldlegtemperatureindicationisusedas 1(N,i'It'iJ,adt10 back-upinformationt'ohelpdeterminenaturalcirculation,andassuchitisnotconsideredtorequirefullenvironmentalqualification.Asummaryofthequalificationtest,reportforConaxRTD'sisincludedasReference79.TheentirereportisonfileattheRG&Eoffices,andcanbereviewedifdesired.14.ItemNumber55-ReactorContainmentFanCoolerMotors.InourFebruary1,1983submittal,RG&Ediscussedmostofthedesignatedopenitems.Additionalinformationisasfollows:a)MotorInspection,IncludingBearings:DuringtheSpring1983refuelingoutage,RG&Eremovedandinspectedthefancoolermotorandbearings.Thesewerefoundtobeinexcellentcondition.Althoughnot.necessary,thebearingswerereplaced.TheoriginalbearingsarecurrentlyavailableatRG&Eforinspection,,ifdesired.Themotor,windings,andspliceswerealsoinexcellentcondition,withnoabnormalsignsofdegradation.b)ChangeoutofGrease:ChevronNRRGgreaseisnowbeingusedinthesemotors.AcopyoftheChevronbulletin,andapplicablepagesofGinnaprocedureA-1011areincludedwiththisreportasRG&EReference80.c)RadiationQualification:Theradiationqualificationtestingusedtoqualifythemotorsusedindustrystandardgammatechniques.AsnotedinRegulatoryGuide1.89,..."NUREG/CR-2089concludedthatstandardgammasimulatorscanadequatelyduplicatedamagefrombothambientandaccidentradiationenvironments"...Thus,thisissueisconsideredresolved.15.EquipmentItemNumbers56,57-Switchgear.AnexplanationwasprovidedinRG&E'sFebruary1,1983submittal.16.Equipment,ItemNumber62-Sump"B"LevelDetectors.ThesedetectorshavebeenreplacedwithqualifiedTrans-americaDeLaval(GEM)unitsPartNo.LS57761.Excerptsofthequalificationdocumentationisprovidedas-Reference81.Theentiresetofqualificationreports"NuclearQualificationTestProgramonaLiquidLevelTransmitterandReceiver"ReportNos.45700-1and45700-2areonfileat,RG&E,andcanbereviewedifdesired.Thefirstreportdocumentsqualifi-cationforradiation,aging,seismic,andabnormalconditions.ThesecondreportdocumentstheLOCA/SLBaccidentenvironmentaltesting.NotethatthequalificationreportsareforPartNo.XM-54854.

PAGENO.TESTREPORTNO.XIX-345700-22.0PROCEDURESThetransmitterwasinstalledintheLOCAchamberand"Tefzel"insulatedwirewasusedtoreplacethetlyle-suppliedwireusedinthepreviousphasesofthetestprogramtoeliminatethepossi-bilityofthewiringcausinganapparentspecimenfailure.ThespliceswereinsulatedwithRaychemNCSF-70/250-Nheat:-shrinkabletubingandthewireswereroutedthroughthechamberpenetration.TheconduitwasleftdisconnectedfromthechamberwallandthewiresexposedtotheLOCAconditionstoprovidequalificationtotheworst-casemountingconfiguration.Thefloatlevelwasfixedbyclampingatubularaluminumspacertotheshaftandallowingthefloattorestontopofthespacer.Thespacerwas45+1/8incheslong.ThereceiverandtransmitterwereelectricallyconnectedbypassingtheTefzelwirethroughaScotchcastpenetrationandconnectingtheCannonconnectortotheappropriateconnectoronthereceiver.Therequiredtemperature/pressuretransientswereaccomplishedbytheinjectionofsuperheatedsteamandcompressedair.Thechemicalspraywasinjectedintothechamberthroughafognozzlewhichpro-videdauniformspraypatternasprojectedontoahorizontalplane.Theflowratewasmonitoredusinganorifice-typeflowmeterandadifferentialpressuretransducer.Thetransduceroutputwasrecordedonthedataloggertocontinuouslymonitortheflowrate.ThepHofthechemicalsolutionwasmonitoreddailywithLitmuspaperandadjustedasnecessarybyaddingsodiumhydroxide.Afterthe2-hourmarkofthesecondtransient,thetemperaturewasmaintainedbyinjectingsaturatedsteamandthepressurewasmaintainedbyinjectingcompressedair.Theaccidentconditionsweremaintainedforatotalof30days.FollowingtheLOCAtest,thesubmergencetestwasperformedasre-quiredbyParagraph1.0.Thetestchamberwasfilledwithchemicalsolution,asdescribedinParagraph1.0,untilthetopofthejunctionboxwascovered.Thechamberwasthensealedandpressurizedto6.5-7.0psig(15-16ftH20)atthetopofthespecimen.Thepressurewasmaintainedfor30minutes.NYLELABORATORIESKuntavilioFacilliy
